Lake Huron Medical Center (LHMC), a member of Prime Healthcare, received an “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade for spring 2022. This national distinction recognizes Lake Huron Medical Center as among the top in the nation in protecting patients from preventable harm and errors in the hospital.

“As our health care system continues to feel the strain of the pandemic, I thank the workforce and leadership of Lake Huron Medical Center for sustained commitment to patient safety, day in and day out,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “An ‘A’ Safety Grade is an outstanding achievement, and one that is not possible without a 24/7 effort by the entire health care workforce to protect patients from harm. This community should be proud.”

This is Lake Huron Medical Center’s sixth consecutive year receiving an “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade. LHMC continues to be the only hospital in St. Clair County to achieve this honor.

“This distinction reflects the hard work and dedication of our outstanding staff at Lake Huron Medical Center,” said Jose Kottoor, CEO of Lake Huron Medical Center. “Our physicians and employees are driven to provide evidence based safe care each day.”

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over thirty national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.

“We are honored to be recognized for this distinguished award at Lake Huron Medical Center for the eighth time in a row,” said Katie Cox, Director of Nursing for LHMC. “Our team works hard every day to ensure that our patients receive top notch, safe, quality, and compassionate care. Having a five star rated hospital in the community means that you have access to the highest quality care available in St. Clair County.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
