PORT HURON, MI – Lake Huron Medical Center (LHMC), a member of Prime Healthcare, has once again earned the coveted five-star overall hospital rating by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), for 2022.

Lake Huron Medical Center is one of only 18 hospitals in Michigan to receive an overall five-star rating by CMS and is the only hospital in St. Clair County to receive top ratings. This is the third consecutive year that Lake Huron Medical Center has received the prestigious five-star rating by CMS.

“We are proud to receive this continuous recognition for the third year in a row, from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services,” said Jose Kottoor, CEO of Lake Huron Medical Center. “The fact that we are the only provider in St. Clair County and surrounding areas to receive a five-star rating gives the public an easy choice for receiving their healthcare.”

This overall hospital rating is based on data that is publicly reported on CMS’ Hospital Compare tool (  The Overall Star Rating reflects upon 50+ measures across five aspects of quality care, including: Mortality, Safety of Care, Readmission, Patient Experience, and Timely and Effective Care. The CMS rating allows consistent comparisons to each hospital’s overall performances on average compared to other hospitals in the U.S. in treating common conditions such as heart attack or pneumonia. Hospitals are given an overall rating ranging from one to five stars, with five as the highest and three as the most common score.

Lake Huron Medical Center credits this achievement to their commitment to providing compassionate patient care that focuses on patient safety and satisfaction. “A five-star rating is a testament to the teamwork we have amongst our physicians, nurses, healthcare workers, therapists and others,” continued Kottoor. “Our physicians and staff follow evidenced based practices and nationally accepted guidelines that are proven to promote better patient outcomes.”
