Lake Huron Medical Center Achieves Highest Five-Star Rating from CMS
Federal Agency Rates Hospital Among Top Nine Percent in Nation

Lake Huron Medical Center earned the highest five-star overall hospital rating by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), placing Lake Huron Medical Center among the top nine percent of hospitals nationwide. *

Lake Huron Medical Center, a member of Prime Healthcare, is one of only 20 hospitals in Michigan to receive an overall five-star rating by CMS and is the only hospital in St. Clair County to receive top ratings. Lake Huron Medical Center’s overall hospital rating rose to five stars from four stars in the previous annual CMS report.

“These ratings reflect the sincere commitment of our doctors, nurses, staff and hospital to the communities that we serve,” said Jose Kottoor, Chief Executive Officer, Lake Huron Medical Center. “We are honored that Lake Huron Medical Center has been recognized among the best in the nation.”

This overall hospital rating is based on measured data publicly reported on CMS’ Hospital Compare tool (medicare.gov/hospitalcompare). It summarizes up to 51 measures across seven aspects of quality, including patient experience and effectiveness of care into a single star rating for each hospital. The hospital rating shows how well each hospital performed on average compared to other hospitals in the U.S. in treating common conditions such as heart attack or pneumonia. Participating hospitals reported data to CMS, the federal agency that runs the Medicare program through the Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting Program. Those hospitals were given an overall rating ranging from one to five stars, with five as the highest and four the most common score. Lake Huron Medical Center earned five stars and ranked in the top nine percent, according to the report.

“Lake Huron Medical Center credits this achievement to a commitment to clinical excellence and thereby decreasing our complication rate and hospital acquired conditions and infections,” added Sridhar Reddy, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Lake Huron Medical Center.

This top rating is the latest acknowledgment of quality care at Lake Huron Medical Center, which also recently received Trauma Center Level III designation by Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, Leapfrog A Rating (Straight A’s since Fall 2018), Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award, and 2020 Women’s Choice Awards for America’s Best Hospitals for Patient Safety and Emergency Care to name a few highlights.

Lake Huron Medical Center is one of only eight hospitals within Prime Healthcare to have achieved CMS’ highest five-star rating.
